Most industrial catalogue pages look fine and convert badly. A grid of product photos, a name, maybe a one-line description, and a "Contact us for details" button. It reads like a brochure because it was designed like one — and brochures aren't how industrial buyers actually make decisions.
An industrial purchase — a pumpjack, a laser cutter, a fitting rated for a specific pressure — usually isn't a solo, impulsive decision. It's often evaluated by an engineer checking whether it fits the application, then a procurement person checking price and terms, then sometimes a manager signing off. None of them are going to "contact us for details" as step one. They're going to check whether your spec sheet matches their requirement, and if it's not there, they'll open the next tab.
Hiding specs behind a contact form doesn't create urgency. It just filters out the buyers who had other options — which, in most categories, is most of them.
A lot of industrial sites route every inquiry — a single replacement part, a fleet purchase, a custom spec request — through the exact same generic contact form. That under-serves everyone. The buyer who needs one part fast gets a form built for a six-figure procurement conversation, and abandons it. The buyer with a complex custom request gets three text fields that can't capture what they actually need.
A quote form that's aware of what was being viewed — pre-filled with the product or category, asking for the right details for that type of request — converts meaningfully better than one generic "tell us about your project" box, because it respects that not every inquiry is the same shape.
In practice: structured spec tables instead of scanned PDFs, categories built around application rather than internal product lines, a quote path that carries context from the page the buyer was on, and honest signals about availability instead of silence. None of it is exotic — it's just designed around how a technical buyer actually evaluates a purchase, instead of how a template assumes a consumer browses a shop.
